Project Notes: The Action Trailer

When I first heard about Overlanding back in 2007, it was from my friend Joel, a fellow member of Travis County Search & Rescue, on which I was a ground team member and wilderness medic at the time.

He pulled out a copy of Overland Journal  – totally new at the time – and I couldn’t believe this was a thing I’d never heard of – camping, rad off-road vehicles, excellent equipment – it blew me away.

As a life-long Toyota Land Cruiser enthusiast and owner (FJ-60, 100 Series), I was thrilled to see a new way to take these rad vehicles out into the woods.   I also felt like a peasant, seeing how much some of these rigs cost, but I digress….

My first sighting of an “Action Trailer” was on Highway 290 heading towards Fredericksburg from Johnson City.    It was an Adventure Trailer (as seen below – not the exact one).  I was super excited to see it, the owner was super excited to show it to me, and it immediately went on The Project List as something I want to do .  .  . eventually.  🙂

My favorite resources are Overland Journal and Expedition Portal, though I really did get started on the IH8MUD forums.

I always joke with my friends that overlanding is my “make-believe” hobby, although I do make it out yearly to the excellent Fall Outdoors Expo hosted by the fine folks at Texas Avid Outdoors.
